General Summary:

Plant:A 1mtpy Heavy Structural Section Mill capable of rolling a very wide and complex range of products to demanding customer tolerances with piece weights from 17 kg/m to 540 kg/m, run-out lengths up to 170 metres and final cut-lengths from 6 to 24 metres. Highly demanding product and process complexity and frequent fast paced product change-overs are key features of this 250 ton per hour, $450m steel mill.

Sub Plant:A tail crop and sample/dims piece hot disc-saw of 2400mm dia is in-line to divide a 170 metre runout for optimised presentation for the next process. A 40 meter wide by 96 metre long cooling bank cools the cut- piece to < 80degC. A double supported 4 over 5 roll roller straightening machine for straightening sections up to a modulus on 1750MPA - 2000mm roll pitch and 1300mm diameters with an operating speed of 3m/s. An in-line straightness gauge provides accurate feedback. The process is highly automated and demands high levels of skills and attention.

Deployment date will be 3rd quarter of 2011.

Skills Requirement

  Constantly monitor, pace and communicate accordingly to mill pulpits and personnel to ensure optimal operational conditions
  Effectively operate and pace the Hotsaw, Cooling Bank and RSM to meet the critical components of length,  temperature and Straightness
  Effectively plan and manage Blade and Section Roll Change sequences and other delays / interventions
  Manage the cooling bank optimisation and strategies to ensure minimal straightness and thermal variance
  Manage the operational, control and adjust the plant to ensure consistent product quality, throughput and defect free product to match customer requirements
  Manage the process set-up, delivery and operating practices to ensure a cobble free operation
  Monitor and ensure accurate tracking of the pieces through the Hotsaw to Cold Saws
  Total Industrial experience in relevant Steel Industry
