General Summary:

Plant: A 1mtpy Heavy Structural Section Mill capable of rolling a very wide and complex range of products to demanding customer tolerances with piece weights from 17 kg/m to 540 kg/m, run-out lengths up to 170 metres and final cut-lengths from 6 to 24 metres. Highly demanding product and process complexity and frequent fast paced product change-overs are key features of this 250 ton per hour, $450m steel mill.

Sub Plant: A two-high 1200mm diameter, 2800mm barrel reversing roughing/shaping mill, with a window range of ~ 1000mm. A near net structural section shape is formed for the next process from ~ 20t, 12 metre long beam blanks and blooms at 1250degC with rolling forces up to 1000t and speeds of up to 5 m/s. A head and tail crop hot disc-saw of 2400mm dia is in-line to crop the ends of the piece presentation for the next process. The process is highly automated and demands high levels of skills and attention.

Deployment date will be 3rd quarter of 2011.

Skills Requirement

  Determine root cause of poor BDM operation, roll designs and schedules through analytical interpretation of BDM screens, data and liaison with others
  Manage the BDM operational plant to ensure consistent product shape, tolerances and profiles to match the REF mill requirements
  Manage the mill set-up, delivery and rolling practices to ensure a cobble free operation
  Monitor and manage the cropping strategies to ensure maximum yield and max run-out lengths are not exceeded at the REF
  Monitor and manage the mill set-up, roll-wear, design and gap parameters to ensure defects free net-shapes to the REF
  Monitor and manage the Roll Change and Datum Set sequences
  Monitor the feedstock identity and profile and manage any discrepancies. and ensure accurate tracking of the pieces through the BDM to REF
  Pace the BDM mill and communicate upstream and downstream to ensure optimal operating conditions
  Total Industrial experience in relevant Steel Industry
