50% EMIRATIZATION BY 2014

For this recruitment campaign we shall initiate the policy of offering 3 year fixed-term contracts. The main reason for this policy shift is that the mandate for ESI is 50% Emiratization by 2014 or an intake of 5% per year from 2010 - 2014. In order to have positions available for those UAE Nationals we should have expatriates staying for 3 years which is normally the duration of the residence visa.

1. What is the impact of this policy shift?
a. In terms of benefits – none – both the open-ended contract and fixed-term contract shall enjoy exactly the same benefits. The only difference is the tenure of the employment contract although there are proposals to enhance the fixed term contract employment.
b. In terms of training the UAE Nationals – extra efforts must be exerted to prepare them to assume the position in three (3) years time. It shall be the objective of the department heads and his supervisors to prepare the UAE National to eventually take over the position.
c. In terms of renewing fixed term contracts – the fixed-term contract is renewable depending upon the worker’s performance and the preparedness of the UAE National to assume position.

2. What happens to existing open-ended workers?
a. In terms of the existing open-ended workers – all incumbent employees shall continue with their contracts for as long as their performance would allow them continued employment.

3. Is there a chance for fixed-term contract workers to become open-ended workers?
. As some open-ended workers would retire or resign, fixed term workers who has consistently performed in his role will be given the priority to take over that position.
